The Mindfulness Prescription for ADHD*
*A term coined by Dr Lidia Zylowska PhD (USA) in her groundbreaking book of the same title published in 2012.
ADHD Can be described as a surplus of awareness. Left-unchecked this can challenge us, but enhanced and consciously connected with, this can become a super power!
One technique does not suit everyone

Children
1 single introductory session, and then a 10 week mindfulness course. Which can be repeated from Beginner to Intermediate, to Advanced in each age group.
Age will reflect the difference in approach:
At 5-8 years most children find abstract thinking beyond them and need things related to practical experiences they have already had in life, and they have vivid powers of imagination. This age group takes on mindfulness practices best through stories, rhymes, songs, movements, and being playful.
Around 9 -12 years old children are maturing rapidly and social interactions and social pressure are becoming much more important. These children may have a greater desire to control or influence the narrative of their learning, so their involvement in creating their own (and their family’s) mindfulness practice is important.
13 - 15 year old children are feeling more like adults and will generally reject anything that feels childish, so the practices become closer aligned with adult practices. Games and challenges may still be very effective.
At 15 - 18 years self-worth and self-esteem are areas that can fluctuate and focusing around emotional literacy is important. Working on the same abstract thinking and self awareness that I teach adults is on the cards depending on the child.
Note that ages are not prescriptive to the techniques or approaches used. Each child is an individual.
Attendance: All classes will be attended by one, preferably all parents / carers to help with the core caring network adopting a mindfulness practice to ‘lead by example’. The more mindful parents / carers are, the more their children will learn how to become self-aware and self-regulate as required.
One on One classes with the children may be discussed after a 10 week course has been completed.
Two families are welcome to coordinate together into the same class time and location. Note that the course content is adapted and customised to the people.

Adults
Some people grasp the concept of mindfulness and feel adequately equipped to apply it to their other ADHD management strategies after only 4 sessions.
Others love to get deeper into it and learn a diversity of practice including breathwork, movement and a list of meditation techniques that work for them personally (and an understanding of why).
I accept people on both learning journeys, contact me for information on pricing.
There are specific mindfulness techniques for each of the challenging symptoms of ADHD, for example:
Restlessness
Emotional roller coaster (dysregulation)
Inattention
Impulsiveness
Verbal diarrhea
There are also mindfulness techniques to help you turn your symptoms into super powers, for example:
Surplus attention
Surplus energy
Creativity
Imagination
I run Workshops at local community centers and yoga studios are run frequently, contact for information on the next one.
Book your own 1-on-1 session, or get together with some friends or family with ADHD and book a one to group session.
A structured 4 week mindfulness based ADHD management course can be adapted to the individual or group. At beginner, intermediate or advanced levels of existing practice.
Each session will focus on embedding a rewarding way of practicing single technique, thought pattern, or habit. We will find a practice that you enjoy. If we don’t enjoy it, our mind won’t want to do it again. Recent study into behavior science has found ways to develop habits and embed practices that are fun from start to finish.. no more beating yourself up for not sticking to a habit.
